Conversation Series 151 – Wes La Rue

Our next guest for the 151st Conversation Series event with The Contraband Wagon is “Wes” La Rue, creator of the Substack “Diary of a Mad? Black Man.” I met Wes through his wife, Elizabeth Silleck La Rue. She has an amazing Substack to which I’m a paid subscriber that’s a gold mine for people emigrating from the U.S. like myself or for anyone who wants to stay abreast of or learn about constantly changing immigration policy. Once I subscribed to Wes’s Substack, I realized I’m dealing with a true power couple here!

I invited Elizabeth and Wes to have a livestream with me and my racialized white husband to discuss our respective experiences with being in interracial marriages. During that conversation, both Wes and I felt a resonance with each other that is very familiar to me. We have a similar upbringing and similar life experiences. I’m sure many of them will be revealed as we explore each others’ evolution of race consciousness during this discussion.

Wes’ Substack reveals a thoughtful Black man who has had enough, and I can certainly feel him on that. Join us as we compare and contrast our respective racial evolution. Wes mentioned that the platform I’m building is a passion project within his own heart, so we’ll definitely explore that as well.
