Conversation Series 148 – Millie Jones-Cowles

Millie found me via one of my recent Conversation Series events with Nick Paro. You can check out that conversation here. Nick and I delved into his evolution of race consciousness, and Millie was gracious enough to express positive comments about the conversation. That spurned a private conversation between us, which turned into a Zoom call, which turned into an invitation for Millie to join me on The Contraband Wagon! Here’s Millie’s initial public comment about my conversation with Nick:
“I loved the discussion and would love to come on your show. Just an older woman married to a woman of color. I found many comments and the discussion very interesting. We have race discussions all the time in our house. Not many places where the discussions are held in a safe non threatening way. I mean that as the highest compliment. Peace to you and yours for the season however you celebrate. I stumbled onto the video and it was a pleasant find.”
It was a well-received message, and it validates the importance of the work I’m doing creating a safe environment for conversations on race. I can’t wait to hear about Millie’s personal evolution of race consciousness and how that evolution was impacted by marrying a woman of color.
