During this hundred-and-twenty-sicth Conversation Series event, I will be speaking with Smitty Russell, another Twitter user who found me based on my work creating conversations on race. Smitty and I actually had a conversation on Zoom that was not recorded about the work we are both doing to support racialized black people and especially black men. Our initial conversation was based on education.

Several weeks later, Smitty asked me to edit a book he composed meant to counter the narratives concocted about and negative associations attributed to racialized black men. I was happy to oblige, and I was moved by the words and images in that composition. I invited Smitty to join me for a conversation about his evolution of race consciousness, his inspiration for the book, and his future plans in the race context.
