Conversation Series 153 – Carrie Kaufman

The guest for the 153rd Conversation Series event with The Contraband Wagon is journalist, former public radio host, and current host of the “You’re Overthinking It” podcast, Carrie Kaufman. It has been a little while since I’ve done random outreach to get guests for the show, but Carrie is a recent exception. I read her article, “The Subtle Racism That Hides Behind ‘Objectivity'”, and it inspired me to reach out to invite her to be a guest on the show. That was in early September 2025.

Now here we are at the end of January after I dropped the ball multiple times, and Carrie’s schedule has allowed for us to have a nice chat about our respective evolution of race consciousness. I’m particularly interested in exploring some of what Carrie wrote regarding her experiences with public radio and how those experiences exposed a cross section of the system of white supremacy.
